There are two bases on which we can define the types of computers. We will discuss the type of computers on the basis of size and data handling capabilities.

We will discuss each type of computer in detail. Let’s see first what are the types of computers.

What is a Computer?

Computer is an electronic machine to perform mathematical and logical calculations.
A computer is a combination of hardware and software and can exist in a variety of sizes and configurations.

In other words we can say that computer is an electronic device which accepts the data, manipulate  it and produces desire information, where the data is set of unprocessed elements and information is set of processed data.

Modern digital electronic computers can perform generic sets of operations known as programs.

These programs enable computers to perform a wide range of task.

Computers are widely Computers are widely used nowadays for business, education, government organizations, and personal use.

Types of Computers:

There are differents types of computer available ,
such as Personel computer, Workstations, supercomputer, Server computer and Mainframes computer Etc.

Personal Computers (PCs):

A personal computer is a multi-purpose microcomputer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use.

Workstations :

Workstations are specialized computers designed for specially intensive tasks, such as scientific,  engineering simulations, 3D modeling, and video editing.

They are more powerful as compare to personal computers and they have multiple processors, large amounts of RAM, and have dedicated graphics cards.

Servers computer :

Servers are computers that provide services to other computers.
such as web hosting, file sharing, and email.

They are designed for high performance, reliability, and security, and are usually located in data centers.

Servers are computers that run services to serve the needs of other computers.

There are, for example, home media servers, web servers, and print servers. There are also file servers and database servers.

Mainframes:

Mainframes are large, powerful computers that are operated by organizations for critical business applications, such as banking, healthcare, and government.

They are known for their high reliability, security, and can handle a large number of users and transactions.

Supercomputers:

Supercomputers are the most powerful and fastest computers available in present time.

supercomputer, any of a class of extremely powerful computers.

The term is commonly applied to the fastest high-performance systems available at any given time. Such computers have been used primarily for scientific and engineering work requiring exceedingly high-speed computations.

Supercomputers are used in a various fields;

Scientific research: Supercomputers are used to model complex systems and processes, such as climate change, drug development, and particle physics.

Engineering: Supercomputers are used to simulate and optimize designs for cars, aircraft, and other products, as well as to analyze and improve manufacturing processes.

Weather forecasting: Supercomputers are used to process massive amounts of weather data and generate accurate forecasts for a range of time frames.

Defense and National security: Supercomputers are used for intelligence gathering, cryptography, and simulations to test and improve military capabilities.

Supercomputers are the most powerful computers  and are used for scientific, engineering simulations, weather forecasting, and other applications that require massive amounts of computational power.

They are expensive and often require specialized cooling and power systems.
